Villages of San Mateo County:  Full-time Volunteer Manager


Villages of San Mateo County (VSMC) is seeking a full time Volunteer Manager who will be responsible for the overall management of our volunteer program. The Volunteer Manager works in partnership with leaders in our three villages (Sequoia, Mid-Peninsula and Villages of the Coastside) to ensure that the volunteer engagement is maximized and there is seamless support for our volunteers.
The Volunteer Manager is being hired to:

  • Increase our volunteer pool by expanding outreach and recruitment efforts;
  • Amplify volunteer participation and retention by strengthening mentorship support, peer collaboration and appreciation for volunteers' efforts;
  • Cultivate volunteer leadership and build a bench of future leaders through closer relationships and understanding of volunteer skills and interests;
  • Build a volunteer community and connection and close relationships so satisfaction is maximized.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Volunteer Outreach and Recruitment: Identify new outreach and recruitment opportunities; strengthen outreach messaging, materials and processes; support Village outreach efforts; make public presentations.


Volunteer On-boarding, Orientation and Training:
Welcome new volunteers, answer questions and assist with application process. Conduct Orientation sessions and develop volunteer training, as needed.


Collaboration with Individual Village Leaders:  Work closely with Village leaders to understand incoming volunteers’ interests and skills; serve as a resource to address challenges; share practices and procedures that increase volunteer engagement.


Engagement and Retention:
Monitor volunteer engagement and provide support and encouragement; especially when volunteer activity wanes. Cultivate volunteer affinity groups.


Volunteer Appreciation:
Lead annual Volunteer Appreciation event; create and support smaller volunteer gatherings; develop routine appreciation strategies.


Data Management and Learning:
Track monthly volunteer hours and quantify contributions; gather volunteer satisfaction feedback and develop strategies to continually improve volunteer experience.


SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS NECESSARY

  • A proven team player comfortable working in collaborative relationships.
  • A strong communicator with diverse groups and individuals; comfort speaking publicly.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and electronic communication skills.
  • Proven project management, highly organized with strong attention to detail, and record keeping. Ability to plan and execute events.
  • Technologically capable: proficient with digital communications, MS Office and Google Suite. Capable of using databases and generating routine and ad hoc reports. Quick study, willing to learn our database management system.
  • Experience working with volunteers in non-profit setting.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.

WORK REQUIREMENTS
This is a full-time position, requiring a majority of time in our office in Redwood City and in the community. along with a small portion of flexible time to work at home.  There will be routine meetings out in the community, meeting with Village leaders, volunteers and making presentations. Requires some weekend and evening time.


COMPENSATION
This is a full-time exempt position with an salary range of $68,000 to $72,000, depending upon experience. Benefits include a healthcare stipend and 3 weeks of paid time off and 12 holidays.

Villages of San Mateo County (VSMC) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that is part of a growing national movement of virtual villages across the county that are dedicated to mobilizing volunteers to support their senior neighbors, joining a vibrant and active community with other aging adults navigating the transitions of aging. Volunteers also provide support services that enable our Villagers to age with grace and dignity, maintaining their independence in their homes and the communities they love.  We serve a large part of San Mateo County from Millbrae to Menlo Park and from Half Moon Bay to Montara. Founded in 2015, we now have over 290 members and 290 volunteers.  Our work is largely volunteer driven, with a small staff team of a full-time Executive Director, Volunteer Manager, Social Events Manager and Administrative Project Manager. We are at a very exciting point in our organizational development, as we expand our reach and deepen our impact, while building a sustainable organization that will ensure VSMC will be a community resource for years to come.
